I am in Wellington! Alas, my luggage is in LA, or was, according to the airport people this morning.

Also, Qantas has apparently damaged the basket on my rolling walker, mostly because (as I was informed by an airport worker) they absolutely do not, despite what they may tell you, do gate checking and gate return of walkers (or wheelchairs, or strollers for that matter). You give it to them and you are not going to see it again until you are at the final endpoint of your destination, and it WILL have gone through regular baggage claim. Don't believe anything they say about gate checking. And for that matter, American Airlines policy on such things sucks rocks through a bendy straw too. When I was waiting at the door of the plane after most people had gotten off, and inquired as to whether my walker was in fact going to be brought up to me (as happens right away on Delta, Northwest, and Continental if I recall correctly), I was told by a senior crew member that "it's a big airplane, and it takes a while." I was sufficiently tired that I said, "But usually they have it here right away waiting...but I don't usually fly this airline and I guess they do things differently on American." He winced visibly, and then somebody shook a leg and they got it up to me and I made the dang connection.
Anyhow, I think I can adapt the basket-fastening-hooks, which are what they broke, with some number 8 wire, preferably with Miche's help. We'll have fun with it.

But anyhow, the big plane from LA to Sydney was great: comfortable, edible food (good tea!), and amazingly quiet and smooth. Very nice indeed. P and I watched Treme on his computer, which was just the right in-flight viewing thing for us.
And now I am in the hotel, and we have washed what few clothings we have, and P has acquired a relatively inexpensive jacket and some socks, and I have a book to read, and there was lovely dinner, and now I soon go zzzzzzzz. And in the morning, a convention will be here.
Luggage or no, life is good. Birthday celebration data to come on the morrow, possibly after I go shopping for something to wear, unless my luggage arrives promptly.
