ArtLog: work in progress and many arts radiating out from the center

Well, wherever the center is, anyway.

(Actually, I know right where the local center is, and it's definitely a whirling star of energy.)

Anyhow, I'm in a "Forward in all directions!" state again, as the band 3 Mustaphas 3 would say. Got half of the next bell sleeved sweater post written up (with photos) and will have a surprise twist in the post following that, because I had some artistic realizations. Am working while the light is good -- working on shinies, I mean. It's usually what I mean these days when I say "work," unless I mean writing. And speaking of that, I want 36 hour days. Or maybe I need one of those voice recorder transcriber things so I can tell the story while I work on shinies... because as contrary as it seems, having made the decision to go ahead and finish the novel, I've suddenly got so much art energy for shinies that it's profoundly startling. Sure, things used to be like this sometimes, but not since my hip replacement surgery and its aftermath, for sure, and possibly not since before Mike died.

I take the surge of energy as an indication that I'm making the right choice in deciding to finish the novel, but I do have to work on pointing the fire hose in the right direction. I have shiny-making energy, and I definitely have writing energy, and well um not to spill too many beans -- which I typoed "beads" at first, of course -- there's a second piece of crocheting art in progress which is why the twist post will come in the bell sleeved sweater series.

So I'm going to practice pointing the fire hose in the right direction, but I'm also going to enjoy the surge of energy and let it carry me into making shinies, at least for the rest of the afternoon. Because after all, there's a Minicon coming, and I need something to put on my table, now that you lot have snatched up all the shinies. (I am SO VERY NOT COMPLAINING. Hee!)

Also, I need to write some new stuff so that I can hold my end up on Lady Poetesses from Hell again, which is another reason to look forward to Minicon.

Life is full of art, and the strong impetus to make art. Life is good.

And now I am going to go work on that pendant about the sinister mermaid. Well, she isn't necessarily sinister in intent; she might be just curious. But the gauge marked "oxygen cylinder pressure" worries me. I suspect this piece is going to want those faceted resin-encased color-treated cultured freshwater pearls in deep midnight blues and violets. And there are spoon earrings halfway done, and a series tentatively called "mermaid keys" and an Imperial jasper necklace, and I found a few of those awesome dark (possibly overdyed with indigo?) labradorite pieces everybody was going gaga over in the middle of the second row of this set of images, so we shall see. (All the things on that page are sold. I just put it together one day because I needed sort of a "greatest hits" thing to show somebody.) And I'm contemplating a bunch of interesting brass stampings, and looking for my green paua shell beads, and so forth.

OK, back to work.

ArtLog: incipient new shinies, but they'll be up late tonight

Almost all the photos are done, and I'm waiting for the camera battery to recharge, but I do have to run out and be an alternate at the county commissioner convention tonight, so it will be late before I get New Shinies posted. But they're on the way, and there are two pins that can either be hair sticks or shawl pins. I hope you like them. There will also be some less expensive earrings, because I got in a simple earring mood there. Some have spoons. Spoons!

ArtLog: auctioning an octopus and spoon pendant
elf hill

Why? Because hominysnark could use some help.

What? A pendant of stone, sterling silver wire, and lead-free base metal charms: Octopus With Spoon pendant

How? Bid here, and please bid by responding directly to the bidder you're outbidding, so that they know they've been outbid. (Misplaced bids will be deleted.)

When? From the moment this goes live until Monday night at eight p.m. MINNEAPOLIS time, a.k.a. Central Daylight Savings time. That's Monday the eighth, so it's eight on the eighth, OK? Which means the opening bid should be eight bucks, then.

Where? I'll ship anywhere you want by any means you want, and I will pay the first $10 USD of shipping. (You pay anything over that, and you are responsible for any customs fees, VAT, delivery fees imposed by your local carrier, et cetera.)

Why? Already told you, but there's another reason: I do have health insurance, and I am really glad I do -- and I remember what it's like not to have it, and that's just not OK. So I want to do something to help with the immediate crisis, and this is something I can do. If you can help by bidding, that's excellent... or you could follow the link to the info post and scroll down to the PayPal button and give a buck or two, or ten, or whatever you can. Every bit helps.

ArtLog: New Shinies (surprise again!)

Greetings from snailsville, where the snails are getting ready to go traveling. Here are your newest shinies, direct from the Lioness:

ArtLog: wicked glee again

Yeah, I suppose it was naughty of me to make a pendant called "Science and Health with Key to the Spoons," but there you go.

ArtLog: new shinies (at least, the first two of them....)

Greetings from snailsville, where the snails are making great progress in physical therapy despite the ongoing festival of ow, and are therefore all triumphant-feeling even if they do have to sit in bed with an icepack on their hip when they'd rather be at the workbench. Oh, well; that just means more makin' stuff tomorrow, right? Here are your newest shinies, direct from the Lioness:

ArtLog: distraction, but to a good end

Well, I was all set to go to bed earlier than usual, and then I took one last look at those little spoon charms...

...and now it's half past two, and there are two more spoon vessels that will go into New Shinies on Wednesday.

I'm working out some of the geometry on these. It's a pendulum swing: very ornate, rather spare, ornate again, sparer yet.... We'll see where it ends up. One of the vessels is very faeryland, all curves and ornaments and little firepolished crystal beads in a finish they call "amethyst glow," and the other is just sterling silver wire in two gauges. One side of the latter came out looking like fantasy to me and the other like science fiction, which was amusing.

So much in my head, and this late at night it seems that my pain receptors say, "Oh, the heck with it!" and take a little break, and the temptation is to stay up, but I'm going to be at least semi-good and go to bed pretty soon. Might take a hot bath first, as it's kinda cold around the edges hereabouts.

ArtLog: new shinies - surprise!

Greetings from snailsville, where the snails are wobbly but triumphant, and have definitely shifted into pendant and hair toy mode (and necklace, soon). Here are your shinies, direct from the Lioness:

After two EXTREMELY wobbly days, I have nevertheless succeeded in getting the first Yarn Zombies earrings finished, and two pendants besides. One of the pendants is the first Spoon Vessel pendant, and the other is a surprisingly lyrical pendant about an octopus and the great starry rift. I think its name is going to be "Silent Night."

It'll be tomorrow before they go up, but I have hopes that they will indeed go up then.

Whew. Good to have something work. And good not to be afraid to take something apart when it doesn't, as happened with the first iteration of the Spoon Vessel pendant. Its name is, of course, "In Case Of Emergency, Break Glass."

OK, now I am going to hang out with the Juan, who is making some food for us. But I needed to tell you guys about this. Hope all is well with you, and that the foodmaking is of the goodness too.

ArtLog: of progress and timing

There will be a New Shinies post, but it will come in two parts. The necklace-crowns and the first batch of earrings will go up tonight late, and pendants and more earrings will go up tomorrow.

And Charlotte and I succeeded in prepping the Little Bitty Magpies and Great Big Magpies and a little of the Mother Of All Magpies... for February. Which is another sort of progress, and a very good sort. We're using the little notebook computer's inventory program to calculate things this year, and it's taking a bit to get used to it, but it's definitely an improvement. I will try to photograph some of the beads later this week to show any of you who are curious. MOAMs are already sold out, but there are some GBMs and LBMs left.

Back to talking about the upcoming New Shinies, though: there are pieces using the new charms I got, which means there are earrings with keys, and earrings with octopi, and earrings with spoons. (I plan to make a few spoon pendants, too, because it wants doing.) And more. You'll see.
