ArtLog: new work and old, with photos
I have been working.

The first piece is a necklace called "As Above, So Below." Some of you who were at Worldcon probably saw pieces of it as I was making it. I suddenly needed something to wear for the Hugos, and assembled it hastily, figuring I would take it apart into its four or five sections later and play with it some more, but people informed me that it was done, so I guess it is. Sterling silver, lots of stone and glass; there's aquamarine in there, and peruvian opal (which still looks like chalcedony to me), and jasper and pearls all manner of goodies. Expensive, which means I have not yet figured out the exact number for the price tag, but I know it's over $500 and under $800.

Pendant: "Fly-by-Night, or, Travels in the Dark" Labradorite with a nice biconic Swarovski crystal bead on sterling silver. There's a daytime side and a nighttime side to this pendant, and on the nighttime side a dark and brilliant blue figure leaps from a crescent of shimmering light into the darkness. Most astonishing bead, this labradorite. $40. sold

Earrings: blue and clear glass on sterling silver. Amazing beads. The stripes look almost purple to me in regular light, but they're blue. $35, and I wish I could find some more beads like this to play with. These are the only two I have. sold

And now from the past: an ocean jasper pendant, a bit off-center and the silver is tarnished, but it's a sweet stone. $10.

Last thing is that pale, pale yellow-green necklace; someone spoke to me about it just after the June sale, and I cannot remember who it was. Was it you? If so, we should talk.

There's also some work in progress, but that'll have to wait for the next round of photos, as will the BotMo pile of loot.

What's the large bead on the jonquil necklace like? It looks like feather/leaf shapes on it somehow, but how?

Love the stripy earring beads.

The large bead on the jonquil necklace is an amazing bead made a long while ago by Mo Cooper. It's lampworked glass with ribbons of jonquil-colored glass running through it. They look like writing, to me. It's an amazing bead.

I love this necklace, but it's done being mine, now. If the person who talked to me in June gets back to me, or if I can find the note I wrote myself with their name, they'll get it. Otherwise it will go up for grabs, because it should have a new person who will wear it a bunch.

"As Above, So Below" is lovely. The jumble of colours reminds me of the treasure box I had as a child, where I stored my precious objects - a tiny feather; a shell; a bead. Nothing more than a centimetre across. I would love to have made such a beautiful necklace from my childhood fetishes.

Ooh. Thank you for sharing the memory! A splendid word-picture to carry; I am grateful.

Here are pictures of two of your other Worldcon pieces.

The necklace that found its person at the Tor party:

Did this pendant find its home too? (Alas, the bar was really too dark for good pictures):

The pendant found its person, or perhaps found the person who will help it find its person. (That person might take a photo of it sometime, which would be cool.)

The necklace that found its person at the Tor party made me so, so happy by doing that.

And so did you, with these pictures. Thanks! (And when will we be in the same place again for your next lesson? I think this is definitely a series of lessons, yes?)

You're welcome!

I have another picture from the Tor party (of the necklace and its person and you) to email you when I get home tonight.

Series of lessons, yay! Mmmm. Will have to figure out my schedule and then co-ordinate with you. (Also, we should play more pool.)

Oh, beautiful! "As Above, So Below" is a gorgeous mix of color and shape. The labradorite pendant makes my fingers itch to go shopping for some myself - it's a stone I haven't used as of yet. And the lampwork bead on the jonquil necklace is kind of mysterious and beautiful, both.

All lovely, lovely pieces. :)

Thank you! Labradorite is amazing. I try to get at least some of it into the Beads of the Month packages every year, because buying a great honking lot of it all at once is what makes it possible to get it at better prices.

There's a lab collar half-finished on my workbench right now. I'd better go finish it soon. It was born in Arizona, though I thought about it for a year or so first.

Oh! That was me with the yellow-green necklace! What do I need to do? I'm sorry, I'm all aflutter. Just looking at it still makes me catch my breath.
