Becky Casady's wonderful bronze beads

"Twisted Sister" beads (bronze) $26.00 $22.50 each
SOLD: the pregnant-bellied one with a spiral, and two of the lower row on the right

These are probably the only ones of hers I'll be able to get, as I believe she now has someone who will be taking her beads to many conventions, which is excellent news. I couldn't resist carrying a few, though; they were hard to see at WisCon amidst the tangle of necklaces, so here they are a bit visible. This sale is the only time they'll be marked down, too, as the bulk of the purchase price goes to Becky. (Hey, Becky! E-mail me back, eh? I have money for you! *grin* ) Anyhow, there are 13 of these: one pregnant-bellied with a spiral, three round-bellied, and nine incurved-waisted ones. They are all very, very cool. (The black dots on the back of them are adhesive velcro dots, and they will be removed prior to shipping. Velcro dots are also useful for attaching cats to things, or things to cats, but let's not go there right now kthxbye.)

stone planet beads for earrings
(Note: I'll also be putting up planet pendants in a little while.) These are all different kinds of rocks, though what you see there is mostly jasper. They remind me of the little planet jewelry that Lois McMaster Bujold writes about in one of her Miles Vorkosigan books. (Fortunately, Lois told me that they remind her of those, at which point I breathed a sigh of gladness that the universe fit together so neatly. I asked her which was which planet, though, and she grinned and said people would have to figure that out for themselves. Pricing is tricky, here, since these are meant to go with interchangeable earring wires, which I will sell in sterling silver at $1.50 the earwird. Each planet bead, WITH NO EARWIRE, is $5 for any size. I may add more stones to the mix. (I have my dreams of tiger-eye planets.) You tell me what size, but I choose beads at random. Buy as many or as few earwires as you need, and get a selection of planet beads to hang from them. By the way, the two tiny ones are free to the first person to order any planet bead from this batch claimed already, thanks. (The reason I'm selling the earwires separately is that some people already have theirs and only want planets to interchange now. By the way, I will convert planet beads to regular earwires for $1 per wire, including materials.)

lampworked dichroic and other glass

lampworked pendants w/dichroic glass now $23 (final markdown) ALL SOLD
Kevin O'Grady work:
boro bracelet - medium $58.00 $49
boro bracelet - large $120.00 $99

The Kevin O'Grady bracelets are beautiful. If you've tried them on at a convention, you probably know whether they fit or not; othewise it gets a bit tricky, as these are borosilicate glass and therefore not really adjustable, ya know. But ooh, they are pretty.

PLANET PENDANTS

Stone pendants on sterling silver wire. Most of them are ocean jasper, and the rest are other jasper, as far as I know. (Bought 'em all in ocean jasper strings, but you know how that goes sometimes.) $14 each during the sale. SOLD: #12, #19, #21

Festival of Cats!

"To Wind My Ball of Yarn, O!"
"What Garden? I Don't Know a Thing About It!"
"The Unlikely Friends"
"Zen for Cats" (Please note: the black butterfly bead may leave marks. Caution. On the other hand, if you ever really need an emergency crayon....)
...SOLD "Why Maurice Is Never Bored" SOLD
...SOLD "The Cat Who Knew Where All the Bones Were Buried"
SOLD
Take $2 off the marked price of any of these.

scallop pendants, turtle pendants, cat pendants
These are glass or stone or bone beads on either sterling silver or gold filled wire. And right now, they're on sale for $8 each. SOLD: the first scallop, the second scallop, the tiny stone turtle (the first turtle), the bone turtle (far right on top row), the eensidy little black cat, the white cat with spiral bead, and the two-tone cat.

Festival of Cats, part 2

...SOLD "Number One, I Presume" SOLD
...SOLD "Keeper of the Seven Mysteries" SOLD
"Owlwhisker's Rose"
...SOLD "Miss Moonwagon's Famous Perfume" SOLD
...SOLD '"I'll go," said the cat, who knew where the moon was kept.'
SOLD
Take $2 off the marked price of any of these.

two new things
One is a necklace called "The Brown-Eyed Goddess," which is now SOLD. The other is a bracelet called "Something Old." Both are jasper. I got the beads in strings of ocean jasper that I bought, though not all of it has the orbicular coolness going on. These are brand-new, but you can take 10% off either of them for the next 25 1/4 hours. (I added these at 10:45 Wednesday night, my time.)

really special stuff from my private stash

"thinking of archaeology" bracelet: Gold filled wire and these amazing wound glass beads, vivid and irregular, filling me with thoughts of ancient beads lost and found; $80.

memory wire bracelet: Because sometimes you have to have something very shiny; $45

string necklace: I was playing with cord before I got into metal. This is one of the things I did. It's apt to tangle, but it's got its charms. $20

two necklaces on soft-flex wire: The first one is SOLD actually still available; it's freshwater pearls and some lovely blue glass beads that look lampworked to me, as they are ever so slightly asymmetrical. I couldn't get the color right except for the photo where they're in my hand, so only believe the beads right there against my skin for true tone, OK? The second one is soft, soft jonquil-colored beads, freshwater pearls, and the most astonishing Moe bead, very early, and impossible for me to photograph, but... if you have ever seen the clear Moe beads with lines of blue suspended in them like writing, this is one of those except in the jonquil color. Astonishing. Really. Both of these necklaces are magic. Buy them only if you need astonishing joyful magic necklaces. $90 each.

link sampler: I made this when I was doodling with sterling silver wire. The beads are a kind of serpentine called bowenite, sometimes referred to as soochow jade, which is how they were labeled when I bought them. This tends to turn so the toggle clasp is at the bottom, but I think it looks cool that way. (And that's how come the Snow White necklace is the way it is. See? I learned stuff from these!) $50

...SOLD hematite/hematine/glass necklace: Very, very shiny. This is the place where I first experimented with the sphere-in-a-triangle motif that turns up later in earrings and necklaces. Base metal, and lots of time, and a serious amount of playful attitude. $150. SOLD

high summer and autumn colored necklace: Oh, my. I remember this one. I made it just before doing a trunk show with Mary Michelle Little, at Worthwhile in Charleston. It matched a skirt and blouse set I got from her, so I pulled it out of stock and wore it to a garden party. I think I wore it to Jo Walton's wedding, too, come to think of it. It's a fine necklace, and it's been bored lately. $210 was the original price, I believe, though how I remember that I could not say. Call it $170.

...SOLD oooh, shiny magic goodness!: This necklace was a meditation on shiny high-pitched jewel colors, very fae garden and all that. I love the colors, and originally made this for myself, but do not wear it much. Give it a good home? $130, which is, I must say, a way good deal. SOLD

"To Know Is Not The Same Thing As To Understand, #1": A very important necklace, first of a seris of four, this piece marks the first time I used heavy gauge sterling silver (16-gauge, I think it was) trying to get a look almost like galvanized fencing with it. (I think I succeeded, down by the Indianhead penny.) There are some beads on here with stories... among them, a Moe bead, and a 2nd or 3rd century Roman glass bead (the black one with the bits of colored glass inset in it)... and also some beads I don't know stories about: the trade bead with a web of dark-blue lines, and so on. The point of this whole series is that even if I told you the name of every person who made every bead and everything I knew about them and their lives and their people, I still wouldn't be able to tell you what that bead meant to them -- even if I did, which I mostly don't. I can know the facts, but that's not the same thing as understanding the meaning of a cultural artifact from inside the culture. $500, and this necklace is unlikely to be offered for sale again in my lifetime if it doesn't sell in these 24 hours. (If it does, you have my blessing and gratitude, and I will tell you everything I know about it.... *grin* )

"What We Found At Thera": Another necklace about archaology? Yup. I'm like that, I guess. My dear Mr. Ford showed me the wonderful book about Thera by Charles Pellegrino -- it's called UNEARTHING ATLANTIS, and I strongly recommend it -- and I got to the page with a photo of the delicate fresco of birds and lilies in the house they excavated. There were tiny dancing dots on the little round white bead in this neckace, and little swooping lines done in dark purple; they made me think of the lily stamens and the birds. It took me several years to collect the rest of the beads for this piece; I knew I had it when I found the vessel bead, made by a local lampworker. After I bought the bead and built the necklace, using gold filled wire, turquoise, amber, and other beads I treasured, I saw that the vessel bead had a bubble in it... and that a crack was beginning to propagate from it. Eventually, I realized, the bead would destroy itself. One day somebody would pick it up, and it would be shattered. When I told someone this, they said it was not unlike the story of Thera itself. This made me feel better, but I still pulled the necklace from stock. It was the first four-figure piece I ever made, so this was a bit of a wrenching decision, but it was right. I'm only offering it now in case someone is as crazy as I am and actually likes the idea of a necklace for whom there is a likely disaster waiting. Me, if I still have it when it breaks, I will likely cage it carefully in wire and wear it in its "after" stages just as happily, unless I invent some elaborate field-jacket-type amusing setting for it. $1200 was the original price. Call it $800 now, with eventual breakage just part of the deal. (Which reminds me, I should post my original guarantee, which began "This piece will break." Heh. Truth in advertising. After all, everything does, eventually, no?)

Remember: new ordering address is gimme@lioness.net. Don't just hit reply to a previous e-mail from me about a sale, because such replies go to my main address. To successfully order something, make a fresh e-mail to gimme, please. Thanks, and sorry for the confusion. Also, don't send payment until the end of the sale, please. I'll send you a confirmation e-mail. Thanks! Also, a word about shipping and handling: I seem to have lost the note I put up earlier in some cut-and-paste accident, but shipping to anywhere in North America is usually $5, which gets you a nice sturdy box with a tracking number and everything. I'm happy to ship outside North America; please check with me for rates. If you're already in Beads of the Month's June program, you either get free shipping (if you're a Big Magpie person) or reduced shipping (if you're basic). Thanks!

Sale is over.
Thanks!

This is not an order, it's a question. I'm interested in the tiny branch with berries; how would the artists' challenge work?

Oh, how I wish I had the scratch to pony up for "Coral." But I really don't.

I have the novel started and everything. Ah well. I admire it from afar! And I may weave it into the story, if that's okay?

Another question. Are the necklaces in the first section all also wearable as crowns? (Especially Thorns, Grapevine, Pirate and Drowned)

Are the crescent moon earrings in the picture of "She Wore a Circlet of Summer Moonlight" available? How much?

I still owe for the June BotM, if that's pearl. I think. Checkbook not at work, and I am.

Wow. I am surprised my jaw hasn't fallen off and hit the cat. I have rarely seen such gorgeousness in one place, and I wish I could see them all in person. Sadly, that would require buying them all, and I can't quite manage that. But I really am feeling rather overwhelmed and moved by it all.

Wow! They're all lovely. The green leaf bracelet and earrings are the closest match between my desires and my budget, but even so I can't justify it with a vacation coming up. But I'll get the vacation, so I won't sigh too much. :-)

The faraway wet, smacking sounds you may now and then catch an inkling of is me flopping on the deck wrestling with my fiscal conscience. The leafy green bracelet and earrings have sung to me ever since the first time I spotted them. And there they still are. Completely unimpressed with my protestations, I might add. Curse.
