ArtLog: Beads of the Month for January (the final BotMo of Year 2)
The theme for January's Beads of the Month selections will be "Elise's Choice," so you know what that means.

This Lioness would find it very helpful if people were to comment here about what beads they especially liked over the past year. Doesn't matter if you were in for all the BotMo packages or just for one month; anything you have to say about BotMo beads that you received will be useful.

What stands out in my own memory about Year 2 are these things: ocean jasper (yikes! I just realize I owe somebody replacement beads! Sorry, [info]thette, I will get those out to you as soon as I get home!), agate beads, the colors of water and colors of fire packages, and giggling with Katie while we packed things. Anything stand out in your memory?

If you've made something with some of the beads, feel free to link to a picture, if you'd like. If you just like playing with them and carrying them around, tell me that, too, because I love knowing it.

Might I inquire about the status of the BotMo special for knitters and fiber artists? Mine hasn't shown up, and I'm wondering if I should be getting cranky with the post office...

Do not get cranky with them; you may get cranky with me, as it is totally my fault. I got the box of excellent Green Girl beads and buttons just before leaving town, and it was one of the things I did not get done. I'm sorry, and will be putting a few extra in to console people for the waiting. (There are four participants in it, so people are going to get extras anyhow, since I have large amounts of goodness and small places to divide it.)

One of the things I hope to improve for next year is timeliness. It's been much better this year, ever since I instituted the policy of "if I don't ship it before the last day of the month named, it's free." Last year we had either one or two late ships on regular months; this year, so far, not any, though the supplement's been a festival of lateness.

(Suggestions on more things to improve are welcome, by the way. Always useful, those. Either here or at elise a t lioness d o t net. Probably there, actually, or I'll make another post here for it; in this one, I am hoping to get bits of data to help me make up the January packages for you guys.)

Don't beat yourself up, dear Lionesse; the hollydaze and its attendant travels and festivities interrupted all our lives to one degree or another. Your mailing is usually so timely that it made me wonder about potential lost-in-the-mailness, is all.

Oh!
*startled expression, which melts into a pleased expression*

Oh, cool; I guess my efforts to improve have been bearing fruit, then. Excellent! And thank you very much for telling me.

Oooooo the fish and ocean one. They are sitting on my dresser looking at me. I keep taking them out and playing with them, but don't know what to do with them.

Right now I am getting ready to pull out the first BoTM package I got which was...crystal? I am making wine glasses with craft wire and beading on the stems and giving them as gifts. I suddenly got a great idea for some of the ones you sent.

Fun! Well, I love Ocean Jasper with an unreasonable passion. :-) December was beautiful - "escences and -oyancies." The "Ocean" theme was fun; I also happen to especially love the colors of green and blue. This year's "Lampwork" was also particularly lovely.

There was also talk of doing an "Astronomy" theme? Maybe that was going to be for February?

I was in Seattle to celebrate Christmas with family and friends, and received many "ooohs" and "ahs" on the moonstone hedgehog style necklace that I bought from you two sales ago!

Here's a picture of my daughter's Halloween costume. (She's a sea fairy.) I'm sorry you can't really see the headdress; she took a metal comb-style headband and added tendrils of blue and green beads on silver wire, that stretch back over her hair and bob eye-catchingly when she walks. She also has blue and green ribbons and two of your Pirate Hair Ornaments in her hair. I made the dress and sash.

Don't stress about my bead, I know you're getting to it.

I've been thinking about your BotM packages, but I really can't justify more UFOs. (And the magpie in me says "BEADS!!!!", but I'm trying to ignore her.)

I just wrote a post talking about what I've been doing with beads recently, triggered by this post of yours. It includes pics of hairsticks and knitting stitch markers that I've made of late, all of which are getting plenty of use by me!

Regarding which items stand out most in my memory in this year's BotMo: I think that the lovely lovely lampwork beads were the high point for me. I've also loved any Swarovski crystal (or similar type beads) that turned up... was the month that had lots of different kinds of cut glass and crystal beads this year? Because I adored that one! I do like the "educational" themes, too. Nothing like a bit of learning to go with my shinies! Oh yeah, the "colours of fire" month was great! More fire-coloured beads, thanks! And the "Enchanted forest" was nifty, especially the little ladybird beads. So cuuuute!

I like sparkly things, myself - but on the other hand, some of the themes like the jasper one sent me off in some new directions. I've just posted a picture of some earrings I made today that partake of at least four month's beads. Unfortunately, the picture is overexposed enough that you can't really tell the quartz from the chatoyant glass. Anyway, it's here.
