ArtLog: the pretend-this-is-the-WisCon-dealers-room SALE! - all done, thanks!
Whee! Sale's over!
Despite our email difficulty earlier this evening, all seems to be well now, and every piece of email that people asked about has made it through. However, since it all came in at once, I have to sort through and re-order it by timestamp, which took a bit. All acknowledgements have been sent, including those for all the winning bids in the auctions....
E,
worky sleepybeast soon to zzzzz, and then to round up judges for the essay piece tomorrow.
Greetings from snailsville, where the snails are suffused with peace and gratitude today. Because I will not be in the dealers' room at WisCon, I'm taking the opportunity to have one of those clearance sales I do now and then.
I'll be adding some brand-new shinies every day in batches, and marking older things down in riotous abandon, as is my wont. Sometimes I mark things down two or three times, or more. I've even been known to mark new things down towards the end of a sale.
How long is this sale? This one will end tonight, Sunday night, May 10, at midnight Minneapolis time. (We're on Central Daylight Savings time, in case you're calculating differences.) At that point, all the markdowns vanish and things magically pop up to full price again. However, until that point, I'm going to have big sale fun. Especially in these final hours of the sale. Whee!
Tektite auction! There's also something new this time: I have some tektites that are a little too bulky to make pendants out of, so I'm offering them to the highest bidder. Bidding closes midnight Sunday night May 10, CDT, when the sale ends. Bids must be emailed to gimme@lioness.net to be valid, because I might not see it otherwise. I'll update bids as fast as I can, but please understand if I have to, you know, go eat and sleep sometimes. *grin* They're cool tektites, and I will be glad to see them find good homes. They'll be listed at the very very bottom of the page, along with the ....
Planet beads! When Lois McMaster Bujold said, "Those pendants look just like the planets in my book!" I said I was so glad to hear her say that, because people always remarked upon it. So yep, these are planet bead pendants. (I asked Lois which planet was which, and she said, "Ah-ah-ah, tell them they have to figure that out themselves." So there you go.)
How to purchase something: As always, the only way to actually purchase any of these is to send mail to gimme@lioness.net, so feel free to comment here without worrying that you'll accidentally buy something.
One more thing: because it's a clearance sale, there's no putting pieces on hold. It just gets too crazy trying to keep track of who's in line for what, like I do for the regular shinies postings. Thanks for understanding.
OK, here ya go: SHINIES!

Named pendants: five left.
... "And at that point, the illustrator was captured by pirates." pendant: laguna lace agate, sterling silver, and an incredulous sense of glee.$50 $45, and I think this must be a Peter Max pirate poster for an album that Trader Horne made in an alternate universe. ... "A Few Lines on Coming Home" pendant: Imperial jasper, I do believe, and sterling silver. At first I thought, "Oh, no, I put it on upside-down!" but then realized that this is perfect, because then the wearer can pick it up and look at the hills of home. ... "Under Strange Seas (a steampunk adventure)" pendant: lampwork glass by Charlene Haycox (and I love the little bumps like rivets on the bands at top and bottom), rose plume agate, sterling silver. "My Tidepool Beloved necklace: glass, Peruvian opal, aquamarine, prehnite, prasiolite, lampwork, sterling silver. ... "For All My Teachers" earrings: amethyst bears, little Swarovski crystals, large lavender glass, and sterling silver.$25 $20 $18 $15 SOLD
... "The Forest Became Her Family Then" pendant: jasper ("amethyst sage" type) and sterling silver. There is no way to photograph the powerful feeling of, well, serenity and strength this stone has. It's got a sort of an awed hush to it, like a very old and living temple, and there is a sense that whoever the child is who has come under the forest's protection, she is very strongly warded indeed. This is a gorgeous piece of stone, this bead.$47 $37 $29 SOLD
... "Modern Dwarven Security Protocols" pendant: Cape amethyst, sterling silver. Has very cool internal mini-fractures that refract light in fascinating ways. I suspect the dwarves have gone very high-tech. $32 SOLD

... "Shadow Cat Discovers Space Travel" earrings: ocean jasper, glass, sterling silver.$28 $19 SOLD
"The Way Time Passes" pendant: turitella, which is a stone full of fossil shells (and this one has some lovely examples), with jasper and sterling silver. $52, although anyone who fluently speaks a language in which they can give me a phrase that says something about "those things, so old, and so long ago they lived, and here am I, now, looking at what they left behind, and oh! the time between us, so long and yet compressed into an instant in this glance," will get a 20% discount on it if they provide me with that phrase and a paragraph (in that language) of not less than fifty words explaining some of the nuances of that phrase -- if the phrase and paragraph both pass muster with another person of my choice who is fluent in that language, which I shall have fun finding if anyone takes me up on this. (Hey, part of the fun of my gig is that every now and then I get to do something like this.) I'm not talking about an exact translation of what I said, mind; I mean something that has some of that flavor, something a person might think in that situation. And I'm getting a number of inquiries, so I am going to do the "write me something" thing described here, and give the winning one a discount on the piece. Yay! (Also, somebody has already spotted the careful way I worded the requirements up there, and identified what I didn't say. Heh.) Keep 'em coming, please! This is going to be fun, and I love reading what you guys think of when you see a piece and its title. Here's another look at it. THIS ONE WILL TAKE UNTIL TOMORROW TO JUDGE, AT LEAST.
... "You Go In There, You'll Be Different Coming Out" pendant: more of that jasper marked "amethyst sage" and sterling silver. And you will, too.$32 $28 $25 $23 SOLD

To order, send email to gimme@lioness.net. You'll get a confirmation from me, and Daniel will send you an invoice at the end of the sale, unless you request one sooner.
Shipping is usually $6.50 in the U.S. and Canada and $8.50 elsewhere, unless you'd like insurance or rush shipping, or unless whatever you fancy is really heavy. If you'd like to check on rates or have special shipping desires, please send an email to Daniel at stitchandlioness@gmail.com and he'll figure it out for you.
Those of you who order Beads of the Month packages for the current month can combine shipping with anything you buy here, so we'll save you a little money on that if we can. Generally, a pair or two of earrings added to a BotMo Great Big Magpie or Mother Of All Magpies order won't need any additional shipping, unless they're super-heavy earrings or something. Adding things to a Little Bitty Magpie will raise the shipping costs because we shift things from a padded envelope to a box, so you'd pay the difference there. May's info sheet is posted here with links to photos of many of the beads. There's more information on Beads of the Month themes here.
Thanks for looking!
OK, here ya go: SHINIES!

... "The Bears Know the Way Better Than We Do" earrings: opalite glass, other glass, sterling silver.

... "Distilling the Twilight Flowers" earrings: glass, sterling silver.
... "Dream Station" earrings: lampwork by Beau Hawn, other glass, sterling silver.

... "Evidence of Environmental Degradation as Correlated to Faery Rings" earrings: ocean jasper, glass, sterling silver. These are heavy.
... "The Fish Minuet" earrings: glass and gold filled wire. The blue is closest to the first photo, at least on my monitor. It's a true candy-glass glowing translucent blue, not a blue-green or aqua at all, at least to my eyes.
... "The Forever Afternoon" earrings: glass, jasper, rutilated quartz (I think -- there are couple of things it might be, but I think this is what it is), gold filled wire.
... "The Goddess in Blue Jeans, II" earrings: lampwork by Beau Hawn, other glass, sterling silver.
... "Hide and Go Slither" earrings: more lampwork lizards! Lampwork, glass, sterling silver.
... "'Of the Treachery of Mortals, There Is No End,' Said Grandfather Dragon" earrings: Swarovski crystal, opalite glass and other glass, sterling silver.

"Midnight Sun" earrings: Swarovski crystal, lampwork by Beau Hawn, GF wire.
... "The Music-Box Country" earrings: glass and sterling silver.
... "Old Country, New Country" earrings: tektites and sterling silver.
... "Pocket Glaciers" earrings: Swarovski crystal, glass, sterling silver. They're a little greener than they look here, but still pale.
... "Points of Reference" earrings: feldspar beads, irregularly faceted, and if you look carefully you can find both a silvery moonstone effect and (ninety degrees from it) a flash-of-gold sunstone effect. I added some glass beads, had fun with asymmetry, and put them on gold filled wires.
... "Prairie Style" earrings: ocean jasper and GF wire.
... "Quiet & Sly" earrings: glass and sterling silver.
... "The Seven Bakers of Candlewick Close" earrings: lampwork and other glass, gold filled beads and wire.
... "Sister Eventide" earrings: lampwork by Beau Hawn, other glass, sterling silver.
... "Skyfishing Charm" earrings: enameled metal, glass, GF wire.
... "The Slow Sweetness of Grace" earrings: prehnite and gold filled wire. This prehnite is actually a delicate milky clouded green, far too beautiful for me to capture in a photograph. Be aware that these earrings are very heavy.
... "The Smallest Shell Was Where She Loved To Sit" earrings: glass and gold filled wire. Gotta love those mottle-finish fire-polished crystal drops.
... "Summer Ghosts" earrings: glass and sterling silver.
... "Symphony for a Sea-Queen" earrings: enameled metal, glass, GF wire.
... "Talking to the Snake Lady" earrings: snakeskin jasper, glass, sterling silver.
... "Tendrils" earrings: glass and sterling silver.
... "Third Lives" earrings: glass, sterling silver.
... "Today's Pixies Prefer Modern, Easy-To-Clean Formica!" earrings: glass and sterling silver.
... "Touch Is Like Music" earrings: glass, stone, sterling silver.
... "Translations from the Original" earrings: aquamarine, glass, sterling silver. These earrings have more of those wonderful old purple crystal beads I've been saving. I love what the colors do together here. I should have bought more aquamarines when I had the chance, should I not?
... "Tree Learning" earrings: glass and sterling silver.
... "Trollheim in Space" earrings: stone and sterling silver.
... "Two Bottles of Story, Please" earrings: stone and gold filled wire.
... "Two More Things That Don't Rhyme With Orange" earrings: lampwork glass with metallic foil, GF wires.
... "Under the Leaves With You" earrings: lampwork beads from Victoria Gale with wonderful dichroic sparkle swirled through them, glass, sterling silver. I took many photos to try to show you all the moods of these beads, but they're much better in person.
... "Whispers Behind the Throne" earrings: glass and gold filled wire. Post earrings. The intricately cut glass crystal beads in the center are pretty cool; I've been saving those, too.
... "Wicked Sweet" earrings: glass and sterling silver.
Named pendants: five left.
... "And at that point, the illustrator was captured by pirates." pendant: laguna lace agate, sterling silver, and an incredulous sense of glee.
... "Ariel Released" pendant: lampwork glass from Charlene Haycox, sterling silver.
... "Auntie's Stars" pendant: a wonderful lampwork bead from a talented beadmaker from Hawai'i whose name I have misplaced -- no, wait! I think it was Joel Park. (See this entry for some long-ago work involving beads by Joel Park and the other amazing Hawaiian beadmakers I met at Tucson), other glass, sterling silver.
... "Binding the Lightning" pendant: lampwork glass by Charlene Haycox, sterling silver.
... "Bittersweet Harvest" pendant: stone, color-treated cultured pearls, GF wire, and stories yet to be told.
... "The Camp" pendant: jasper (sold as "amethyst sage") and sterling silver.
..."A Candle For A Faun" pendant: ocean jasper, color-treated cultured pearl, sterling silver.
... "Chasing Midnight" pendant: blue-dyed labradorite and sterling silver. There are elusive glowing blue labradorescent ghosts in here that I cannot photograph. They want just the right light. You'll see.
... "The Clouds Below" pendant: stone, glass, and sterling silver. I know not who swims through the clouds below....
... "The Difference Between Mountain Magic and Forest Magic" pendant: stone, laminated shell, sterling silver.
... "Don't Tug On Mr. Rackham's Sleeve, Dear" pendant: unknown stone with these cool blue bits in it, and sterling silver.
"The Escape" pendant: tektite and sterling silver. Can you tell I like this one a lot? I took so many pictures because it has so much coolness.
... "A Few Lines on Coming Home" pendant: Imperial jasper, I do believe, and sterling silver. At first I thought, "Oh, no, I put it on upside-down!" but then realized that this is perfect, because then the wearer can pick it up and look at the hills of home. There's a little tiny chip on one side... but aren't we all like that, after enough journeys?
... "Full Fathom Five, and Straight On 'Til Morning, She Said, Laughing" pendant: lampwork by Charlene Haycox, glass, sterling silver.
... "Glyph" pendant: lampwork glass from Charlene Haycox, sterling silver.
... "Harp of the Waters, from the Farther Shore" pendant: tektite, labradorite, sterling silver.
... "Hello!" pendant: tektite, sterling silver.

... "Last Call" pendant: dyed agate slab, turquoise in matrix, sterling silver.
... "Love Is Where You Find It" pendant: lampwork bead from Remschneider Glass, rose plume agate, sterling silver.
... "The Mirror of Sylvanus" pendant: dyed agate slab, Beau Hawn lampwork bead, sterling silver.
... "Nixie's Mill" pendant: blue lace agate and sterling silver.
... "Of Spiders and Starships" pendant: tektite and sterling silver.
... "The Old Moon Sleeps In the New Moon's Arms" pendant: blue lace agate, Swarovski crystal, sterling silver.
... "Oyin's Quilt Farm" pendant: stone, glass, sterling silver, and there are definitely stories in this one.
"Pilgrims in the Wheatfield" pendant: stone, color-treated cultured pearl, GF wire, enameled metal. And yeah, it's pretty much "Twa Corbies" in the U.S. Civil War.
"The Pine That Has Its Sorrows, Too" pendant: jasper (sold as "amethyst sage"), rainbow moonstone, sterling silver, and a memory of Jane Hirshfield's voice.
... "Places I've Never Been, #1" pendant: First of a series of this name. Lake Superior agate, sterling silver.
... "Places I've Never Been, #2" pendant: Cape amethyst and sterling silver.
... "The River Maids" pendant: tektite, cultured pearl, sterling silver.
... "A Season For Ghosts" pendant: a wonderful slab of what was sold to me as serpentine, glass, gold filled wire.
... "She-Carries-Them" pendant: tektite and three color-treated cultured freshwater pearls.
"Somewhere Past the Sky" pendant: rose plume agate, glass, sterling silver.
... "Stand Up On It, II" pendant: glass and GF wire.

... "Stand Up On It, XIX" pendant: glass and sterling silver.
... "The Steam Calliope and the Seelie Court" pendant: lampwork by Charlene Haycox, glass, sterling silver.
... "Sweet Bones" pendant: stone, color-treated cultured pearls, GF wire.
... "Triple Happiness, Astronomer's Version" pendant: moldavite, meteorite (Campo del Cielo), tektite (Australasian strewnfield). Slightly smaller than the previous pendant of this type, but no less cool. Oh, I do love working with these materials. It looks a little darker on, especially the moldavite (that green stuff) but I wanted to get it backlit so you could enjoy what happens then.
... "Under Strange Seas (a steampunk adventure)" pendant: lampwork glass by Charlene Haycox (and I love the little bumps like rivets on the bands at top and bottom), rose plume agate, sterling silver. The central part of the huge bead is encased in clear glass, and it's wonderful to look into.
... "Waiting for the Signal to Come" pendant: Cape amethyst, glass, and sterling silver.
... "Where Ya Goin', Pardner?" pendant: stone and GF wire. This stone is a green that refuses steadfastly to be photographed accurately. It's darned cool, though. I can tell you that.
... "Years Later, She Tried To Paint Where She Had Been" pendant: Cape amethyst and GF wire.
Maddy's hair toys: all gone
... "Living Rock" hair toy: that cool stuff they keep selling me as "Peruvian opal," sterling silver, clip-comb.
For reference: A clip-comb opened and then closed again.
Hairsticks: all gone
... "She Dwells Beneath" hairstick: gold-plated seahorse woman charm from Green Girl Studios, Swarovski crystal, gold filled wire and chain, seven-inch wooden hairstick.
Necklace-crowns: all gone.
... "Brambledaughter" necklace-crown: color-treated cultured pearls, Swarovsi crystal, sterling silver. Another photo here, but none of the photos really catch it, sorry.
... "Bringing the Dawn In Her Pockets" necklace-crown: Swarovski crystal and sterling silver.
... "The Fire Inside the Ice" necklace-crown: opalite glass, Swarovski crystal, sterling silver.
... "Love Songs for Machines" necklace-crown: rubber, old jewelry, watch parts, metal beads, Swarovski crystal, sterling silver.
Named necklaces: four left
"Carnival of Sinners" necklace: glass and sterling silver.
... "Faeryland For Real" necklace: The colors here are considerably heightened by sunlight; usually they are more muted. But those golds do hide in there, and leap out under the right light. Pietersite, jasper, rhodonite, other stone and sterling silver.
"My Tidepool Beloved necklace: glass, Peruvian opal, aquamarine, prehnite, prasiolite, lampwork, sterling silver. This necklace has a detachable ornament that can be put wherever you like it; the necklace may also possibly be worn as a belt. (Or I suppose you could make the world's chunkiest wraparound bracelet.) It's seventy-six and a half inches long without the ornament.
"The Salmon of Wisdom's Last Will and Testament" necklace: glass and sterling silver.
"Taking My Baby Back To Clown Jail" necklace: glass and sterling silver.
... "Three Sisters Turned Into Fish" necklace: distressed glass beads (which means yep, some have cracks and crackles, so please be aware of that), jasper and other stone, sterling silver, a fair bit of folklore, and who knows what else.
Tuesday's new things: one left.
... "Both Ends of the Day (Mountains of Peace, Year 91873)" pendant: "amethyst sage" type jasper, sterling silver. $40 SOLD
... "Counting Galaxies Like Sheep" pendant: that jasper that was sold with the label "amethyst sage" and sterling silver. There's not really any blue in here, but there's a lovely grey that plays tricks.
... "A Dinosaur in the Birmingham Guild of Handicraft" pendant: fossil coral, GF wire. OK, I really like the idea of a clever dinosaur following the tenets of Ruskin, hanging out with George Rowley, et al. and making jewelry in the Guild. $50 SOLD
... "The Farm in Winter" pendant: more of that "amethyst sage" jasper, and a lot of sterling silver. Gorgeous markings in this stone.
"The Feast of Lovers" pendant: lampwork goodness; the little one is by an unknown artist, and the long one is by Anne Marie Herlich. On sterling silver.
... "Places I've Never Been, #3" pendant: stone and sterling silver.
... "Special Delivery!" pendant: a wonderful long teardrop of a tektite in a silver wire wrapping. You can even see the greenish-brown color in the one edge that's thin, when the sun's behind it. $60 SOLD
Wednesday's new things: one left, plus one with people writing things for a discount.
... "Constance and the Dragon" pendant: that crackled agate stuff that I sometimes call "dragonscale carnelian", sterling silver, and a lampwork bead by Jami Hamilton of JH Designs. $53, and you should see what it does when the light's behind it. SOLD
"Enchanted Ground" pendant: another piece of that jasper that was labeled "amethyst sage," plus a color-treated cultured freshwater pearl and some sterling silver.
... "For All My Teachers" earrings: amethyst bears, little Swarovski crystals, large lavender glass, and sterling silver.
This is a gorgeous piece of stone, this bead.
... "Modern Dwarven Security Protocols" pendant: Cape amethyst, sterling silver. Has very cool internal mini-fractures that refract light in fascinating ways. I suspect the dwarves have gone very high-tech. $32 SOLD
... "The Name's Pan. Peter Pan." earrings: stone, glass, sterling silver.
... "Shadow Cat Discovers Space Travel" earrings: ocean jasper, glass, sterling silver.
And you will, too.
Thursday's new things: mineral specimens - three left

... Gypsum: "desert rose" is what they call these crystal formations
#1: yep, a desert rose.
Friday's new things: more mineral specimens: two left, plus a bag of opals to bid on.

... Swarovski crystal-studded antiqued-metal (dark finish) beads in red: so hard to photograph, but they are very cool beads.
