ArtLog: Sudden April (post-bead show) Sale!
This sale has ended, except for [info]hfnuala, since I didn't catch her comment and respond in time, so I'm giving her as long as she needs to consider. To all, my thanks!

Yep, the Lioness saw way too many shinies to resist. Therefore, a sale. It starts now and ends when it seems like a good idea, or when there's nothing left, or when Katie and Jeannie remind me that if I sell it all now, I won't have anything left for WisCon.

This will be the one post: any updates will link back here. As usual, an order isn't real until it's e-mailed to gimme AT lioness DOT net. I'll put things up one by one, but if there's something you've been pining for, go ahead and mail me. (However, "Time Is Like Water" won't be marked down. Just sayin'. I took a vow on that one.) (Also, "Prairie: First Light" is sold already.)

OK, now that the formalities are out of the way (oh, almost forgot: shipping is $5 US, somewhat higher elsewhere -- usually about $7, unless Katie tells me it should be more; please do inquire)... all right, where were we? Right: the goodies.

Linked necklaces
"The Post-Colonial Literature Of Elves" - ocean jasper and sterling silver; $280, on sale for $196 SOLD
"The Post-Colonial Literature Of Elves: The Leaf Blade" - ocean jasper and sterling silver; $400, on sale for $280 SOLD
"Dakota Series #1: Spirit of the Hills" - blue chalcedony and gold filled wire; $450, on sale for $290
"The Between Places" - stone, sterling silver, plastic, glass, and mysterious whispers; $110, on sale for $75
"My Life With The Mermaids, Chapter 7: Glacial Mermaids and Tropical Mermaids" - Peruvian opal (which still looks like chalcedony to me, but oh, well) and sterling silver; $680, on sale for $300
"Randy's Haunted Gumball Palace" - glass, sterling silver, stone, Swarovski crystal, found metal, faux pearls, sky blue chalcedony, pearl slab; $240, on sale for $168 SOLD
"Old Growth" - glass and sterling silver; a necklace about age, cunning and roses; $400, on sale for $350, and unlikely to be marked down ever again, if it doesn't go this time. Just sayin'.
"Big Bad Frog Witch" - another one of which I am inordinately fond. Lots of stuff in it; $220, on sale for $195
"As Above, So Below" - glass, blue chalcedony, aquamarine, dyed onyx, moss agate, jasper, Peruvian opal (or whatever it really is), Swarovski crystal, vintage plastic including a bead from an old Mardi Gras necklace, and who knows what all; $800, on sale for $395
"Here Comes There Goes" - gold filled wire with glass (lots of Moe Cooper lampwork!) and plastic (the bead right by the clasp is from an old Mardi Gras necklace); $125, on sale for $105
"Kettlebone Sal and the Faery Still" SOLD
"Time Is Like Water" is made of tourmalinated quartz and sterling silver. It's $900.
"What Was Human" - sterling silver and lots of stuff. Price uncertain; negotiable. SOLD, YAY!
"Tease" - sterling silver, unknown metal ring, glass and stuff; $195, brand new.
"What You Never Knew About The Princess" - sterling silver and things; $160, on sale for $145. SOLD
"Amends" - sterling silver and so on; $275, and there's a story of rebuilding there. No, really. SOLD
"Invisible Tickets" - sterling silver and glass, including some cool Moe Cooper lampwork; $80, brand new.
"Form Follows Fancy" (rebuilt) - sterling silver, glass, carved rainforest nut, et cetera; $275, at the moment.

Necklace-crowns
unnamed Enchanted-Forest-style necklace-crown - glass, sterling silver, Swarovski crystal; $185, on sale for $129.50 SOLD
unnamed necklace-crown with black beads and a few red ones - glass, sterling silver; $210, on sale for $135
"Born of Mortal Woman" necklace-crown - sterling silver, Swarovski crystal, and what's either carved wood or carved bone dyed dark brown - $165, on sale for $140 (smaller markdown, as I am exceptionally fond of this one and like looking at it)
"Go On And Give It A Name" - glass, Swarovski crystal, lampworked glass heart, tiny chains, and sterling silver wire; I had it marked at $340, and then found the rest of my notes on it, and it should have been $550! Well, it's $340 still, for the moment, but it'll probably go up where it should when the sale is done. Except that no, because it's SOLD now.
nacklace-crown with ghost roses - opalite glass and sterling silver; $295, but what the heck, why not mark it down to $230 for the sale? Whee! It's medium-sized, which in my parlance means it fits me, and I am a Lioness with about a 14 1/2 inch neck, I guess it is this week. (Note to self: read previous note about making necklace mandrel, already!) SOLD at the last moment
"Prairie: October Light" - a bit smaller than my usual necklace-crown, this one has gold filled wire, fire agate, glass, and all manner of goodness in it; $295, but on sale now for $250.
"Strange Queen" - extra-large necklace-crown, which will look best on someone who is at least size 2x, and probably would fit up to 5x depending on your neck and what you're comfortable wearing there; sterling silver, a wonderful glass owl bead, several moons, and no doubt there are many stories in this one; $375, nearly brand-new.

Hedgehog-style necklaces
"Caddis and Harmony" - Green Girl Studios pewter clasp, opal chips, sterling silver; $850, on sale for $395
"Older and Wiser Among the Fae" - 3-piece set, with colored pearls, gold filled wire, and Swarovski crystal; $400 and, like, brand-new, because I just made it. Whee!

Curious sculptural/linked necklaces
"Somewhere In The Sky" - glass, labradorite, picasso jasper, moss agate, various stones; someone described this as neo-Victorian mourning jewelry, which has a good bit of truth to it; $395, on sale for $200 SOLD

Pendants
"And Summer Answered" - brand new! Bloodstone, glass, Swarovski crystal, and gold filled wire; $45.
"Thunder Baby" - mostly glass on sterling silver, with a rubber/sterling cord (or is it plastic?); $95, unless somebody wants to buy it for somebody as a present in which case e-mail me and we'll talk. SOLD
"She Dances" - agate, carnelian, GF wire; $32, on sale for $20 SOLD
"What Come To You, Comes To You Through the Desert" - agate (or is it jasper? it came on a string of agates), carved rhodonite rose, GF wire; still $75 because an infinitesimal markdown is nobody's friend.
"The Road" - $5 clearance

A bunch of pendants, all on clearance at $7 each and all SOLD now:
"Buffalo Memory Chant" SOLD
"Waiting For You" SOLD
"The Candle And The Sword" SOLD
"'Oh yeah?' said the fish. 'How about you come in here and say that?'" SOLD

Another bunch of pendants, also on clearance at $7 each:
"Memento of a Showdown"
"The Witness In The Fields" SOLD
"and before the cave, a bird"
"Waiting For The Mirror To Clear"

Named earrings
"Fossil Migration" - Baltic amber and stone on niobium wires; $38, on sale for $16
"Ouroborous and Her Sister" - stone (I think it's rain forest jasper, but I might be wrong) and sterling silver; $21, on sale for $11 SOLD

The Pirate Collection: various prices, all on sterling silver, mildly tarnished, now on sale for $13 each. Arr! You polish 'em, though.
"Your Presence Is Requested" SOLD
"And all the fish that used to be" SOLD
"The Once and Future Pirate" SOLD
"Somewhere Near Whitby" SOLD

Another group of named earrings:
"The Kingdom of July" $36
"And Always the Sea" $38 SOLD
"Puck's Keepsakes" $40
"The Duke Underground" $45
("The Soft Arguments of Time" are not available.)
"Angel on a Rocking Horse" $45
...any one of this group is $25 during this sale.

"The Dowry" experimental earrings - wire too flimsy, so they will bend, but they're cool; $8.

And two more pairs of earrings, way marked down to $12 now (such a deal!):
"Songs of Starry Grace" $24 SOLD
"Orrery Wood" $28 SOLD at full price after the sale
...and yup, they're $12 during this sale. (Sorry, the rest of them are gone already.)

Two pairs of dice earrings:
"A Cage for Luck" $22
"then again" $14

... $5 each during this sale.

A couple more pairs:
"the first audience" $40
"The Lampshade Princess" $36 SOLD

$18 each during this sale.

three Maddy's Hair Toys, all on clip-combs
"Great-Grandmother's Knowledge" - Swarovski crystal and sterling silver; $55, on sale for $40 SOLD (with a testing discount and a bit of extra hardware) for $30
"Walking the Boundaries" - poppy jasper, picture jasper, sterling silver; $35, on sale for $18
"How To Find A Secret Door" - peruvian opal (which still and always looks likes chalcedony to me), Swarovski crystal, sterling silver; $60, on sale for $45 SOLD

necklace/poem collaboration pieces
"Communion of Flowers" - base metal and glass; frame damaged; money to be split with Rez; $50
"Don't Make The Thunderbirds Have To Say 'I Told You So'" - base metal, lampworked glass, stone, all sorts of goodness; money to be split with Rez; $95

And here's an experimental poppy jasper necklace from a while ago to look at. (Not for sale yet. Needs tweaking.)

(I won't put that experimental brass necklace-crown up for this sale, but there will be a special prototypes and experimental pieces sale later this year. I'll try to give you a little advance notice, too.)

SPECIAL Dragon-Phoenix BONUS: If your order was over $100 and paid in full by this coming Monday morning at dawn (Minnesota time) so that Katie can pack it and ship it Monday, I'll add one of those nifty dragon/phoenix beads as a bonus. This bonus has been brought to you by the Department of Timely Shipping, Planning Subcommittee. Thank you. (So does Katie, who's got school for a few more weeks yet.)

I'm sorry. Think of it as finally something convenient for the outside-the-Western-hemisphere folks, and that might help; it's high time they got in on the beginning of one of these.

Though I have to sleep, too. Oops. So much for my cunning plan. Oh, well.

Yeah, I still think that stuff is really chalcedony and not Peruvian opal, too. Oh well; whatever name it has, it's just so beautiful.

This ones name is "Oceans of Desire" and it sings a siren song to me.

I will however resist, however difficult it may be, as I just *cannot* afford it, even on special :(

"Go On and Give it a Name" needs to be worn with an Oscar dress.

Oddly, though I like it a lot, I think I'd be a mite uncomfortable wearing "Somewhere in the Sky", because of the horizontal crescents. Same reason I wouldn't wear something made with crosses - symbol of someone else's religion. I may just be oversensitive, though - I have a necklace with a sculptural fish, pointing nose downwards, and even that just misses being too much like an icthys for me.

Several religions, even. If they'd been proper Dianic crescents, they'd be the other way around.

(There's a piece in progress that uses every symbol I can find and then some; it's called "Knock, Knock / Who's There?")

Having fondled "Go On and Give It A Name" and "Old Growth" to the point of nearly forming a relationship with them when I visited you, I *whimper* at the knowledge that my budget has yet to recover from the trip.

On the other hand, I take some consolation at knowing that means I don't have to make a difficult choice.

Having spent last night booking hotels in three cities for April / May, with probably a US trip in June, I probably shouldn't be doing this. But.... how large is "Born of Mortal Woman"? I mean, for how large a neck?

Come to think of it, maybe this is *exactly* when I should be doing it. If ir's the right size for me, I can have it shipped to a relative in the US and get it then, avoiding exorbitant Customs fees. Makes it even more of a savings!)

It's about 17 inches. My neck is about 14 1/2 inches around, and it sits below the base of it and is a bit loose, but that may be personal preference.

These can be smallened easier than largened, though both are possible in most cases; this one, I'd rather leave where it is, because of the curves.

(Reply to this) (Thread)

[info]elisem

The pink-striped clear ones are glass. The little shiny rondelles are tiny Swarovski crystals set in a metal collar. The long ivory-colored ones are plastic. The wire is gold-filled. And it's sort of sparkly-shiny-creamy in person, with the warm glow of gold.

Downside: likely to bend easily, though it can easily be straightened. (Wire too flimsy.)

Upside: Eight bucks for gold-filled with Swarovski, which just doesn't happen.

Caveat: no free repair, due to known wire problem. (Can't fit bigger wire through beads, and didn't want to remake it in base metal.)

(Reply to this) (Thread)

[info]elisem

I was playing with rainforest jasper and pondering thunderstorms, and there came a day I made the Thunderstorm People #1 and #2 (both sold, and to be shipped this Monday, because I am slooooow) and Thunder Baby. It's sort of a sideways part of the whole "Prairie: Storm Light" pondering, though these are not prairie things.

More than that, storywise, is all unworded and in the piece itself. It's fragile, and would make a better sculpture than jewelry, but can be carefully worn.

Do you think a hair toy would clip into dreadlocks, or do the little comb thingies require loose hair?

(My great-grandmother was one of the two people in my family who didn't think I was completely insane. She died when I was five, and she's been keeping an eye on me for the past few years, so Great-Grandmother's Knowledge speaks to me. A lot. Must go consult finances again.)

(Reply to this) (Thread)

[info]elisem
2007-04-22 05:36 am UTC (link)
Hmm! Excellent question! My guess is that it depends on the texture and tightness of the dreads, and where exactly you wanted to attach it. If it's a supertight dread, and very thick, it would be unlikely that working the clipcomb in would work. If it were right at the base of a dread, where the hair sort of gathers in, and if it were not supertight, then that'd be more likely.

On the other hand, there are also those sort of slide-things that people use to attach eyeglass chains to the bows of glasses -- you know those? I could swap the clip-comb out for one of those, and that could work, as long as the dread in question will fit through the loop in the first place. Want to beta-test the arrangement?

Heck, if you test either on dreads, and give me a full report, it's $10 off. I could send you both bits of hardware and an extra bit of wire, since you're obviously way qualified to swap one in for the other if needed.
